Grey Fur

Daily Post Trio No. 3
Today you can write about anything, in whatever genre or form, but your post must mention a dark night, your fridge, and tears (of joy or sadness; your call). Feel free to switch one ingredient if you have to (or revisit one from previous trio prompts).
It was a dark and stormy night, ok, not stormy but dark and cold when some little grey furred animal came into our house. Unfortunately, this creature did not survive. Only a few remnants on the counter near the fridge existed–grey fur and few guts. True story, it happened a couple nights ago. We don’t know all the details so I’m guessing about what really happened. I’m guessing either a rat or mouse climbed in the house through the kitchen door, lured by the smell of food or trash. Probably trash since most food gets put away. Charlie loves to open every plastic bag and push every box from the counter onto the floor. Charlie is our newest cat; a fierce wannabe warrior confined to the house. He tracks every inch of the house and knows if anything is displaced. Great hearing, if a mouse or rat was rustling in the trash; Charlie would check out that noise.

That little creature has its last “Oh Shit” moment when Charlie discovered the intruder in the trash. Tears of joy on Charlie’s part. Eventually he won, killed the little brown furred creature and had a late night snack. But the story gets grosser. We only found a small portion of this animal on the counter. There is concern that some remnants might still be lurking in the house, leading to a big stink later. But maybe not since Elle’s stools seem to indicate she too had some brown furred midnight snack.

Author: Heres to ART not Cockroaches

Welcome to my life. My life as a mom is changing as the kids grow up, leave home, and build their own lives. This gives me a chance to rebuild myself as an artist, develop a spiritual path, and most fun of all, start going out on dates with my husband. Come here the stories about the small things in life that can make one very happy. Dogs running on a beach, great breakfast dates, kids and their adventures, and my own adventures in this wacky life. I'll share some of my progress in learning art while juggling a full time job as an engineer. And best of all, it's a chance for me to practice writing stories while keeping in touch with my kids. I look forward to hearing from you. Comments, thoughts, and invitations to meet for coffee are all welcomed. Enjoy the stories.
