All Gone

It’s been a wonderful week, lots of laughs, family time, and great fun. And now it’s all over. Mags and Josh left yesterday. Josh was dropping Mags off at LAX. He’s a nice young man, I like him. He makes Maggie happy and she makes him happy. Unfortunately, they live on opposite sides of the country. Their lives are rapidly changing with jobs and grad school and med school and lots of other things, so who knows what will happen. Good things for the both of them, I hope. Tonight Bob and I have the house to ourselves. Kate is spending the night at a friends and we just got back from dropping Liz off at the airport. Had a great trip down to San Diego, visiting Cabrillo National Monument on the way to the airport.

Learned something new — it’s possible to take pictures at night from the car using my IPAD. Got a great view of harbor blvd and downtown. This is the raw image, no editing.

and here is the same image with just a little bit of editing

So which is better — the original or the edited version? I know the second picture tells a better story with the lights, the road, the symmetry from the light post. I like how cropping the top and the bottom brings a focus towards the main story — downtown at night time. But is it a real, or am I distorting something important? Bob wants originals, he thinks they tell the truth. I like edited ones because they do tell better stories.

Author: Heres to ART not Cockroaches

Welcome to my life. My life as a mom is changing as the kids grow up, leave home, and build their own lives. This gives me a chance to rebuild myself as an artist, develop a spiritual path, and most fun of all, start going out on dates with my husband. Come here the stories about the small things in life that can make one very happy. Dogs running on a beach, great breakfast dates, kids and their adventures, and my own adventures in this wacky life. I'll share some of my progress in learning art while juggling a full time job as an engineer. And best of all, it's a chance for me to practice writing stories while keeping in touch with my kids. I look forward to hearing from you. Comments, thoughts, and invitations to meet for coffee are all welcomed. Enjoy the stories.
