Bragging and old stories

First, the news……Kat got an A+ on her math exam.  She is stoked about this, it means she has an A in the class at the moment.   Congratulations Kat.

At breakfast this morning we were talking about a lot of small things.  Who remembers Lola Bucks?  That was the monetary system created by Maggie during her Lola phase. Evidently she used to give them to Kate in the morning, bribing her to be nice when she woke up.  If Kate earned enough Lola bucks, she would get a present from Maggie’s stuff.  Kate was telling us about it, it sounds like Lola bucks bought real junk which seemed wonderful to an elementary student getting some of her big sister’s high school cast off’s.

Another topic of conversation was Jam.  Evidently at Allan’s Alley, everyone loves strawberry jam and some customers (AKA Kate) go looking for it on the various tables.  Alicia, the owner, had a few stashed away, so Kate did get her strawberry jam this morning.  But does anyone remember the Jam Walls from Kat’s early years.

Remember how we had to hide the jam when Kat was 1-2 years old.  If she saw Jam, it was game over for the meal.  She would eat nothing and cry for jam all meal long.  So we started hiding it behind walls of condiments and boxes.  After a while she grasped that a wall meant jam.  And that was the end of jam for dinner.

Welcome to my life. My life as a mom is changing as the kids grow up, leave home, and build their own lives. This gives me a chance to rebuild myself as an artist, develop a spiritual path, and most fun of all, start going out on dates with my husband. Come here the stories about the small things in life that can make one very happy. Dogs running on a beach, great breakfast dates, kids and their adventures, and my own adventures in this wacky life. I'll share some of my progress in learning art while juggling a full time job as an engineer. And best of all, it's a chance for me to practice writing stories while keeping in touch with my kids. I look forward to hearing from you. Comments, thoughts, and invitations to meet for coffee are all welcomed. Enjoy the stories.

  1. I completely remember the LolaBucks Phase. The fake glasses, the ordering of coffee under fake names and the PowerPoint presentation she made trying to sell the opening of LolaBucks as an overpriced coffee shop. Does anybody still have a copy of that, it would be gold?
