my mom won the whining awards

Got a call from my mom today.  Her deal was 10 minutes each, we got complain about anything only she got to go first. WOW, she won.  After hearing about her week, I had nothing to say except my life is really good.  And it is.  OK, I did spend 4 hours avoiding medical bills.  But I was able to pay them.  I did not call the 3600 d0llar per hour doctor, but I can and will on Monday.  And I did NOT spend the last week either being sick or taking care of a human or dog who was sick. I did not have anyone in the family with a broken tooth.  I did not have disasters beyond description.  A trip to old town after work with a little bit of traffic doesn’t even begin to match my mom’s week.

So Mom, congratulations, you won the whining awards.

But in consolation, I can talk about a few good things.  Today (after paying bills) was great.  I bought some paint and a couple new brushes.  I got to share the exhaustive inventory of leftover food with my in-laws.  I got to play with my new brushes and paint, fixing an  old candle holder (the elephant and palm statue) and start a new painting.  It’s going to become part of a series, dancing with fire.  Painting number one is half done and I can see doing this again until I get something I feel is good enough.  Pictures will be posted later.  And then tomorrow, I get to visit my sculpture studio in Fallbrook.  Overall, life is good.  And on the home front, dishes are done, food is put away, and I was able to sign for Maggie’s new phone today.  We did forget about Kat’s piano lesson, but Howard Duncan was very nice about being forgotten. He even brought Kat some new music which she will see next week.

Welcome to my life. My life as a mom is changing as the kids grow up, leave home, and build their own lives. This gives me a chance to rebuild myself as an artist, develop a spiritual path, and most fun of all, start going out on dates with my husband. Come here the stories about the small things in life that can make one very happy. Dogs running on a beach, great breakfast dates, kids and their adventures, and my own adventures in this wacky life. I'll share some of my progress in learning art while juggling a full time job as an engineer. And best of all, it's a chance for me to practice writing stories while keeping in touch with my kids. I look forward to hearing from you. Comments, thoughts, and invitations to meet for coffee are all welcomed. Enjoy the stories.
