Didn’t want to wake up this morning.

When the alarm started beeping, I was in the middle of a wonderful dream. Bob was rubbing my shoulders and giving me a small chip filled with pictures from his trip. We had a small red head child (not mine, but our responsibility) who wanted to sit on the counter and eat cinnamon rolls. Imperious little girl, 2-3 years old, she was making us both laugh. The alarm was a rude shock, interrupting a beautiful moment.

The intrepid explorers did make it home yesterday. Kat even went to school late when she had a get of work free card (traveling). I’m impressed, I might not have gone. And they brought presents. One of the nicest was a zuni zia sun symbol. A circle with 4 rays, it can represent all sorts of things — the directions on a compass, the seasons of the year, the elements (earth, air, water, and fire), and many other things. It’s a beautiful piece of artwork, so this morning I”m getting spoiled with coffee, breakfast, and beautiful art with symbolism.

Heard that Liz did well her first day on the job. She survived, sat through a day of orientation, and today gets to go to a material science symposium. A tired wretch, she promises to call later in the week and tell me more details. In the meantime, I’ll bask in happiness knowing she’s doing well. And Elle too is content, she’s got a puzzle toy with treats inside. I love being able to give her puzzle toys, she enjoys the challenge of learning. It’s pretty amazing how much the dog wants to learn, my problem is thinking up challenges for her.

Welcome to my life. My life as a mom is changing as the kids grow up, leave home, and build their own lives. This gives me a chance to rebuild myself as an artist, develop a spiritual path, and most fun of all, start going out on dates with my husband. Come here the stories about the small things in life that can make one very happy. Dogs running on a beach, great breakfast dates, kids and their adventures, and my own adventures in this wacky life. I'll share some of my progress in learning art while juggling a full time job as an engineer. And best of all, it's a chance for me to practice writing stories while keeping in touch with my kids. I look forward to hearing from you. Comments, thoughts, and invitations to meet for coffee are all welcomed. Enjoy the stories.

  1. Absolutely love your sun symbol! Question…where do you get a dog puzzle. I have a favorite dog who would love one.
