Weekend aftermath and it’s only Sunday

Fantastic, busy weekend.  Liz came home a week ago for spring break.  Fantastic deal, she got tickets from NM Albuquerque for 55 dollars round trip — thanks to SouthWest Points programs.  So at the last minute, we decided to add Maggie into my father-in-law’s (David’s) birthday celebration.  So Maggie flew home for the weekend.  And Kat had no pageantry events this weekend, so we had a wonderful day at Balboa Park.  Lunch at the Prado, saw lots of orchids, fish, and caterpillars at the botanical building, and went into the free art museum.  Lots of laughs and good family time.  Got a great picture of David with his dessert; no cake this year. But he did have some great ice-cream.

Notice Kat–she’s texting an unnamed someone.   Everyone immediately commented “OOHHH, she’s breaking the rules and texting at the table!”

But we forgot to take a picture of all three girls together — it’s my new rule.  When together, get at least one snapshot for mom.  And Kat decided to spend last night with the grandparents.  So this morning we woke her up for pictures before Maggie went to the airport.  She wasn’t happy about the process as you will see.

One last picture of Maggie.  I like this one, it makes me smile.  She looks so happy and beautiful.  I’ll miss her.

Liz leaves tomorrow and life will become quiet again.  If I keep telling myself this is good, eventually I will believe it.  Of course, there is always my art classes.  They keep me busy and happy.  So next week, I’ll talk about pouring metal.  And by the way, Elly is doing great today.  Lively, hungry, and ready for action.  She’s playing at a giant dog park after dropping the kid off at the airport.

Welcome to my life. My life as a mom is changing as the kids grow up, leave home, and build their own lives. This gives me a chance to rebuild myself as an artist, develop a spiritual path, and most fun of all, start going out on dates with my husband. Come here the stories about the small things in life that can make one very happy. Dogs running on a beach, great breakfast dates, kids and their adventures, and my own adventures in this wacky life. I'll share some of my progress in learning art while juggling a full time job as an engineer. And best of all, it's a chance for me to practice writing stories while keeping in touch with my kids. I look forward to hearing from you. Comments, thoughts, and invitations to meet for coffee are all welcomed. Enjoy the stories.
