Take a long look and see if you can figure the basic problem in logic.
The problem shown here is representative of what our local trash publication considers good. Such concern for the readers, they put the answers right next to the puzzles. Of course, if that was the worst of the UT, I wouldn’t complain.
The Union Tribune (renamed the UT) and the remnants of the North county times makes Fox News look liberal. It denigrates everything I believe is important and proposes things I strongly oppose — school vouchers, integration of religion into our schools, no science needed since climate change is a hoax, the benefits of the tea party for politics, and other non news items. The development mogul, Doug Manchester, bought the paper and uses it as his own personal pulpit. Common is front page coverage on the benefits of new developments; many pro business articles along with rants against any kind of regulation, long discussion about how obamacare will ruin the united states, how great vouchers will be for our schools because we can properly teach only the minimal amount of needed science, and of course a 4 page spread about his son getting married.
But we don’t really need local news. When the local republican got voted out of office last november, this did not get covered. Perhaps one article about school event in the region per week, there used to be coverage of local news including education for every city in the area. And lets not talk about the opinion section. The north county times used to have a very lively letters to the editors section; almost anything in reasonable taste could be published. That no longer happens, only a few letters supporting manchester’s views are now included.
We actually canceled our subscription on the 16th of November. Three phone calls, each an hour long, were needed to make that happen. But finally we got them to acknowledge quitting and even had them send a check for the remaining prepaid balance. But the paper is still getting delivered and I HATE it. They won’t stop delivering their trash to our house. Evidently this is happening a lot; it appears they even pay people to take the newspaper. The yelp reviews for this paper are telling. http://www.yelp.com/biz/san-diego-union-tribune-san-diego?sort_by=date_desc
The only good thing about the paper is the sudoko and NY times crossword puzzles. I can’t read the rest of it, I get made at the biased views. But on Sunday’s they even ruin the puzzles by putting the answers on the same page. Well luckily there are some good online sources for news — the New York Times, the Washington Post, the BBC News, and PBS. So I can get some more reasonable information; but I wish there was a local newspaper that could provide good information as well.
