addicted to solitare

Addicted to Solitare,
OK, I admit it. I am addicted to solitare.  It’s a very relaxing game; but somewhat of a shameful pastime. And those apps on the IPAD are very helpful at monitoring these addictions.  The other day, my IPAD informed me that about reaching the 1000 game milestone. What a waste of time. It if takes me 2 and a half minutes per game, that is 2500 minutes.   That means I’ve spent  almost 42 hours on solitare over the last few months.
So the question to ask is why am I willing to waste so much time on this pursuit?  There are no immediate gains and the time could be have been spent on learning to do art, sleeping, or any other number of good pursuits.  But I like the game. It’s become a way to quiet my mind, the drug with no after effects.  At the end of a long day, the cards offer a simple clear relaxation — just the cards and no other thoughts.  Yoga can sometimes produce the same effects, but often I’m exhausted at the end of the day.  Mentally tired and emotionaly exhausted.  Five to ten minutes (or even 20 or 30 minutes) can put me into a very relaxed state.  Follow this with a shower, some yoga, and I sleep at night. Not all night since I wake up every night about 2:00 am; but thats another story for another day.

Welcome to my life. My life as a mom is changing as the kids grow up, leave home, and build their own lives. This gives me a chance to rebuild myself as an artist, develop a spiritual path, and most fun of all, start going out on dates with my husband. Come here the stories about the small things in life that can make one very happy. Dogs running on a beach, great breakfast dates, kids and their adventures, and my own adventures in this wacky life. I'll share some of my progress in learning art while juggling a full time job as an engineer. And best of all, it's a chance for me to practice writing stories while keeping in touch with my kids. I look forward to hearing from you. Comments, thoughts, and invitations to meet for coffee are all welcomed. Enjoy the stories.
